The possibilities are endless!!

I sit here on a stool in my kitchen writing this blog on my iPad. My computer is only 6 steps away in my living room, but I need to be in the kitchen because I'm waiting for the water to boil for my perfect hard boiled eggs (if you haven't already read it I wrote a blog on how to make the perfect hard boiled eggs - look for it below). If I go into the living room I will inevitably get distracted working on my computer and will miss the water boiling. This is an exact science so there is no room for error (seriously, read my blog and you will understand).

IPad use #1: I brought my iPad into the kitchen with me to pull up my egg blog and make sure I was putting in the right amount of salt. It is SO much more convenient than trying to find then printout I made or logging into my computer to read it and then coming into the kitchen. I was able to pull it up in less than 30 seconds while I filled the pot with water.

IPad use #2: I realized while i was standing there waiting for my water to boil that i had my iPad right next to me and could be checking my email while I waited! It was so brilliant that I immediately started writing this blog.

Next time I am stuck in the kitchen you can bet that I will have my iPad with me. Maybe I will play a game, check FaceBook, read the news, check out a recipe, who knows. The possibilities are endless!

Have you drunk the Kool-Aid?

Well, it’s June 2010. Do you know what that means? It’s the month Apple lovers everywhere have been waiting for! No, it’s not the release of the new iPhone. It’s the official launch month of the website: Cupidtino. This website was started by 3 self-proclaimed geeks who are all in love with their Apple products. So in love, in fact, that they wouldn’t ever dream of dating someone who didn’t share this common love affair with Apple products.

Yes, you’ve guessed it. It’s a new online dating website exclusively for fans of Apple products. In their own words:

Cupidtino is a beautiful new dating site created for fans of Apple products by fans of Apple products! Why? Diehard Mac & Apple fans often have a lot in common – personalities, creative professions, a similar sense of style and aesthetics, taste, and of course a love for technology. We believe these are enough reasons for two people to meet and fall in love, and so we created the first Mac-inspired dating site to help you find other Machearts around you.

Cupidtino will launch in June 2010 exclusively on Apple platforms – Safari, iPhone and iPad apps. It’s time to share the love.

Oh boy. Are you kidding me? I don’t get it. What is with the Apple obsession? Someone explain it to me. I am a self-proclaimed addict to the iPad (see my Addiction blog below), but I still don’t understand the “all things Apple” obsession. I’m more of an equal opportunity technology gal. Whoever makes the best product for each type of technology…you’re it. I prefer Sony for my TVs, Canon for my cameras, Apple for my iPod and iPad, etc. You get the picture.

Questions that keep me up at night (okay not really, but I do wonder): Why would someone choose a phone (ahem…iPhone) with a service that drops their calls all of the time? Why would someone willingly choose an operating system (ahem…Mac) that does not seem to operate Office products seamlessly? The majority of the Business World seems to operate on a PC and use Office Products such as PowerPoint and Excel. Therefore, when you spend 80% of your time on one of these applications (you know who you are) and you are having significant issues with compatibility, why not re-evaluate the effectiveness of using the Mac over a PC?

The above dilemma is a real life scenario Apple Addicts I know are currently facing. When I questioned them on the use of their Macs, they responded with “but I like everything else so much better.” The everything else is mail, calendar, contacts, etc. So I responded with, “But if everything else is only used 20% of the time, how does that make sense?” I’m not sure I made them very happy with my continuous questions. Maybe the solution is to have TWO computers and TWO phones! A work computer and a personal computer. A work phone (that doesn’t drop client calls) and a personal phone (that drops calls and annoys your friends but hey…who cares!!). As for me…I’ll stick with my PC and my non iPhone for now. I haven’t drunk the Kool-Aid (yet).

But I digress. Back to the new Apple Lovers dating website, I think that Michael Arrington put it best in his article, “Oh God No. A Dating Site For Apple Fans” when he stated his thoughts: “Apple fans can be annoying when they’re on their own. The thought of them breeding and creating little Apple fans, a whole family of hard core hipster Apple lovers, is just not a good thing. On the other hand, making sure that Apple fans only date other Apple fans is a good way of stopping them from spreading their Apple fan genes to the general population, I guess. So maybe this site isn’t all bad.”

Unfortunately it looks like all of you Apple Lovers out there will have to wait until the END of this month for the website to launch.

It's official: I'm addicted

Early this morning on my way to a networking event (obviously scheduled way too early) I was listening to the radio morning shows, flipping around when I heard one of them asking “what is your addiction?” One of the hosts was talking about her addiction to yogurt covered pretzels and the new flavors that are out. The other host discussed his current addition to the show “Lost” as he has just started watching Season 1. They asked callers to dial in and discuss their current additions. I began to think…what am I addicted to?

Then I looked at the passenger seat of my car and realized. Oh yes, of course. My new iPad. I have to admit…I’m officially hooked. I take it with me everywhere. I took it to the doctor’s office yesterday and responded to a handful of emails while I waited in the waiting room. The time just flew by. I take it with me everywhere just in case I might have some free time. Sometimes it’s used for very productive reasons, but sometimes I just use it to entertain myself. I have several amazingly addictive games, and I even have an electronic book that I’ve started to read. I’m not usually one to read books at home, but I shocked myself and my husband when I was just sitting on the couch the other night reading my book on my iPad with the television turned off. I frequently play games on it at night when the television is tuned to some sporting event that I have no interest in watching. I watched my friend take notes directly on her iPad last night at wine class and I was jealous. I watched her navigate around Evernote so I could learn how to use it more effectively than I'm using it now. I kept wishing I had mine with me :).

Then I remembered how I heard on the news this morning that Apple has sold 2 million iPads in the USA alone. Amazing. I honestly wasn’t sure if this new technology would catch on when I first saw commercials for it, but I think everyone now has to admit that it’s here to stay. I won’t bore you with all the ways I love to use it as I’m sure you can find a million other articles that discuss the top download applications.

Up until now I have resisted writing a blog on my iPad…but now I have to publicly admit: “I’m Addicted.”

My Apple lover friend (the same one from last night's wine class) recently asked me after she heard me gushing over my iPad, “Now do you understand my addiction to the iPhone and Mac?” Without hesitation I had to say “No.” Sorry, I’m just not quite there yet. I’m still a PC lover, and IF I choose to give up my Blackberry I will be purchasing a Google phone. But I guess never say never right?
